A memorial or monument, in my humble opinion, is the sum of it's parts. The consideration, in the design, of the family, the needs of the community and the environment in which it will be living is paramount. Given that, it is also important to me that public art be beautiful, timeless, and inspiring. It should not take a passerby too long to understand the theme of the piece but it should also contain a satifying depth that, if they wish, they can sit, ponder and enjoy looking more closely at.
